Hedge Coke’s “song” explores a similar sense of national identity, attempting to connect the past and present, to “Sing you home into yourself and back to reason.” Hedge Coke, like both Whitman and Hughes, “grounds her poetry in the lives of ordinary people, replete with their historical and cultural contexts” (Van Buren). Both poems explore differing ideas of what it means to be American in a changing national landscape, and the relationship between this complex sense of self-identity and patriotism. Oh, I will-I do.” The poem opens with a dedication to “Phil Young, My father Robert Hedge Coke, Whitman, and Hughes.” Here, Hedge Coke alludes to Walt Whitman’s “I Hear America Singing” (Whitman) and Langston Hughes’ “I Too, Sing America” (Hughes), songs that contain elements of musicality that are tied to a deep sense of history and national identity. In “ America, I Sing You Back”, she uses music as a way to connect the past with the present, “I will sing her back, sing her back. Her own poems in the anthology contain the same elements of musicality that can be seen in the rest of the volume, as “Coke’s “songs” breathe her Native American and European ancestry, along with the vast geography of her experience” (Van Buren). As both editor and contributor, Hedge Coke worked to illuminate the important work of poets of diverse backgrounds and heritage. In Sing: Poetry from the Indigenous Americas, Allison Hedge Coke brings together “Indigenous poetic voices from across the Americas in a single volume” (Brown 258). At A Touch Of Musicality we want to take that ATOM of Musicality & allow it to grow in every one of our students no matter what age or ability they are. An atom is the smallest particle that can exist. If you take the first letters of our name A T O M then it creates 'ATOM'. At A Touch of Musicality we want to take that talent & nurture it so it builds. The definition of Musicality is a natural talent for music, its one of the best compliments that a musician can be given in my opinion. We want to create a relaxed place for people to learn & use as a hub. Slowly we are hoping to offer further instruments & more talented teachers to our team. We have six brilliant teachers, Matt, Atalia, Fiona, David, Mica & I who put our all into this venture.

We have settled in & now are offering lessons from September 2018 which include Singing, Piano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Music Theory, Songwriting & Composition. In September 2017 I set up A Touch Of Musicality, to expand & offer opportunities to others of any age & ability to learn more instruments & team up with the wonderful teachers that work for ATOM.Ī Touch Of Musicality has finally got a beautiful local music studio that has three teaching rooms, a beautifully light airy waiting area & performance space. I've had some amazing opportunities in my life but nothing as heart-warming as teaching. After university I started teaching vocals privately & have been ever since. However, it was at university & once I had met my husband, Matt, that I got the bug for teaching.

I started to sing from a very young age & music has always been a massive passion of mine. It was never unusual for me to be a leader. I've been teaching vocals from the early days when I used to boss my fellow friends around in the school drama productions. I've wanted to create opportunities, make people happy, help people learn & progress as a musician. Hi I'm Phoebe & for as long as I can remember I've wanted to influence peoples lives.
